Race 2 Torworth 10/05/2018

The 2018 NMRRL finally started at Torworth after the late cancellation of the first races last week due to roadworks. This week was the turn of Groups B & C in mild and calm conditions.

The Group B race saw few attacks with only John Hind, Craig Preece (both Bolsover & District CC) & Chris Last (Velo 365) opening up a small gap at the end of the first of the 7 laps, then Phil English (TLI) & Edward Fisher (TLI) gaining a few seconds with 3 laps to go and finally Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) attacking at the bell, all being brought back by the bunch.
At the finish, the bunch sprint was won by Copeland ahead of Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) & English, with Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) & Michael Newton (Barnsley Road Club) rounding off the top five.

The Group C race was even less eventful with only one breakaway of any note, when Chris Green (TLI) opened up a gap with 3 laps to go. The inevitable bunch sprint was clearly won by Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) ahead of Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) & Adam Fowkes (TLI) with Richard Shimwell (Bolsover & District CC) & Scott Paterson (Doncaster Wheelers) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

Race 3 Torworth 17/05/2018

The 2nd race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in cool, blustery conditions on the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & B.

The Group A race saw lots of action from the start with a breakaway consisting of defending NMRRL Champion Robert Mitchell & Dan Stephenson (both Out of the Saddle CC), Dean Watson (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing), Steven Bunting (Rutland CC), James Allen & Andrew Whiteley (both Sheffrec CC) & Jack Ward (Sharrow CC) opening up a 15 second lead by the end of the 2nd of the 6 laps. With all the riders working well together, the breakaway quickly established itself, increasing their lead to 40 seconds by half distance and to over a minute with 2 laps to go. At the bell, with the gap now 1 minute and 23 seconds, it was clear the bunch weren't going to bring them back.

Whiteley proved to be the strongest at the finish, taking a clear win over Watson with Allen taking 3rd place ahead of Stephenson & Mitchell, with Bunting in 6th & Ward in 7th. Aaron Chambers Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) easily won the bunch sprint for 8th place with Gavin Alcock (7 Hills CC) & Jacob Feetham (Geared Up Cycles/CN Cycles RT) rounding off the top ten.

Once again, the Group B race saw few attacks with only David Morrison (7 Hills CC) & Luke Porter (Sheffrec CC) opening up a 12 second gap at half distance but being brought back by the bunch by the end of the following lap. At the finish, a closely fought bunch sprint was won by Phil English (TLI) ahead of Stuart Bolton (Sheffrec CC) & Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) with Chris Harbon (Doncaster Wheelers) & Edward Fisher (TLI) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 2 races, English has a clear lead in the Group B Overall Standings ahead of Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) & Michael Newton (Barnsley Road Club) in joint second with last week's winner Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) dropping down to 4th.

Race 4 Serlby 24/05/2018

The 3rd race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, sunny conditions on the Serlby circuit. This week was the turn of Groups B & C.

The Group B race saw several breakaway attempts over the opening half of the race but each time the bunch quickly brought them back. Finally, with 2 of the 6 laps remaining, the duo of Chris Last (Velo 365) & James Mellor (7 Hills CC) opened up a 12 second gap. At the bell, Mellor was alone but had increased his lead to 19 seconds. Over the closing lap, Mellor was able to maintain his advantage to take a well deserved win with Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) easily winning the bunch sprint for 2nd, several lengths clear of Edward Fisher (TLI) in 3rd with the Doncaster Wheelers pair of Ian Evans & Jason Cross in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 3 races, Phil English (TLI) still leads the Group B Overall Standings with Fisher moving into 2nd place with Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group RT) in 3rd.

The Group C race had little in the way of attacks with only Andy Mills (Out of the Saddle CC) gaining a small advantage at the end of the 2nd lap and Andrew Clarkson (TLI) opening up a small gap at the bell. Once again, a bunch sprint seemed inevitable and it was Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) who was a clear winner, taking his 2nd successive Group C win, ahead of Adam Fowkes (TLI) in 2nd, Scott dawson (Worrall Wheelers) in 3rd, with Richard Shimwell (Bolsover & District CC) & Nigel Gore (Worrall Wheelers) rounding out the top 5.

Race 6 Torworth 31/05/2018

The 5th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, sunny conditions over 7 laps of the Torworth circuit. This week was the turn of Groups B & C.

The Group B race stayed together for the opening 2 laps, then on the 3rd lap, Edward Fisher (TLI) & Karl Wooffindin (Out of the Saddle CC) opened up a gap which immediately sprung the bunch into action bringing them back relatively quickly. With 3 laps to go, Chris Green (TLI) & Luke Porter (Sheffrec CC) gained a few seconds, but again, their advantage didn't last and with 2 laps to go the race was heading towards a bunch sprint. However, on the final lap, Michael Newton (Barnsley Road Club) attacked coming into the finish and just held off the bunch to take the win ahead of Chris Harbon (Doncaster Wheelers) in 2nd & Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) in 3rd with David Morrison (7 Hills CC) & Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) rounding off the top five.

After 4 races, Blackburn is the new leader in the Overall Group B standings with Newton moving into 2nd place & Harbon in 3rd, but the top placings are getting tighter with 14 points covering the top 8 places.

The Group C race saw little action until the end of the 2nd lap when Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) gained a few seconds but was quickly brought back by the bunch. A lap later and it was a trio of Joe Woodhouse (Birdwell Wheelers), Scott Paterson (Doncaster Wheelers) & Andy Mills (Out of the Saddle CC) who opened up a small advantage, but once again, their lead didn't last and the race came back together and it stayed that way over the closing 3 laps.

At the the finish, the bunch sprint was easily won by Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) for his 3rd Group C win of the year ahead of Daughtrey in 2nd & Nigel Gore (Worrall Wheelers) in 3rd with Scott Dawson (Worrall Wheelers) & Adam Fowkes (TLI) taking 4th & 5th respectively.

After 4 races, Smith has retaken the lead in the Overall Group C Standings with previous leader, Fowkes now in 2nd & Gore in 3rd.

Race 7 Serlby 14/06/2018

The 6th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, blustery conditions over 6 laps of the Serlby circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & C.

The Group A race was run off at a fast pace despite the windy conditions. At the end of the 1st lap, Dan & Jack Stephenson (both Out of the Saddle CC) opened up a small gap, but the bunch soon brought them back. At half distance, Harry Buxton (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) held a small advantage over Ben Last (Clay Cross RT) with Group A leader, Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) close behind but the bunch didn't give them much leeway. It was with 2 laps to go that a breakaway finally established itself with Dan Stephenson, Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) & Dean Watson (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) opening up a 25 second lead and by the bell, they had increased their advantage to 55 seconds. Coming into the finish, Stephenson dropped off the pace leaving Mitchell & Watson to fight out a close finish with Watson prevailing to take his first win of the NMRRL. Stephenson still had plenty of time in hand to take 3rd and Jack Stephenson won the bunch sprint for 4th ahead of Aaron Chambers Smith & Stephen Paterson (both Andy Moore Autocentres Racing).

After 3 races, Watson's win took him into the lead of the Group A Overall Standings ahead of Whiteley with Dan Stephenson moving into 3rd place.

The Group C race saw little action over the opening 2 laps with only Sian Randall (Team Jadan/Weldtite) opening up a small gap at the end of the 1st lap. On the 3rd lap, the duo of Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) & Nigel Gore (Worrall Wheelers) attacked, opening up a 25 second lead over the bunch. With 2 laps to go, Daughtrey was now on his own with his advantage down to 20 seconds on the bunch. At the bell, Daughtrey was still riding strongly, 10 seconds ahead of Rob Walker (Worrall Wheelers) with the bunch still at 20 seconds. Unfortunately for Daughtrey, after being at the front for half of the race, he finally paid for his efforts being overhauled in the closing few miles.

At the the finish, the bunch sprint was, once again, easily won by Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) for his 4th Group C win of the year, several lengths ahead of Jason Talbot (Harworth & District CC) with Scott Dawson (Worrall Wheelers) in 3rd and Adam Fowkes (TLI) & Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) rounding off the top 5.

After 5 races, Smith has increased his lead in the Overall Group C Standings with Fowkes consolidating 2nd & Gore just retaining 3rd, after also paying for his earlier effort.

Race 8 Dinnington 21/06/2018

The 7th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, windy conditions over 6 laps of the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & B.

The Group A race was run off at a fast pace despite the windy conditions. At the end of the 1st lap, Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) opened up a small gap, but the bunch soon brought him back. A lap later and a small group held a slender lead over the bunch but the race soon came together again, then splintered into several different groups by half distance with just a few seconds between them all. It wasn't until 2 laps to go that a breakaway finally established itself with Group A leader Dean Watson, Aaron Chambers-Smith (both Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) & Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) opening up a 30 second lead over a chasing quartet comprising Rob Mitchell, Stephen Ellis, Jack Stephenson (all Out of the Saddle CC) with Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) policing the move and the bunch a further 35 seconds back. At the bell, the leading trio had increased their advantage to well over 1 minute on the chasers with the bunch now at 2 minutes. Over the final lap, Whiteley wasn't able to hold onto the repeated attacks by Watson & Chambers-Smith and at the finish, Watson took his second successive win crossing the line just ahead of Chambers-Smith with Whiteley still having plenty of time in hand to take 3rd. Stephenson took 4th place ahead of Mitchell nearly 2 minutes down on Watson & Bishop took 6th place ahead of Ellis another 30 seconds back. Jacob Feetham (Geared Up Cycles/CN Cycles RT) won the bunch sprint for 8th place but over 2 and a half minutes down.

After 4 races, Watson retained his lead in the Group A Overall Standings ahead of Whiteley with Chambers-Smith & Mitchell moving into joint 3rd place.

The Group B race was also eventful with the lead changing hands on just about every lap. At the end of the 1st lap, a trio of Craig Preece (Bolsover & District CC), Chris Harbon (Doncaster Wheelers) & Group B leader Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) held a 10 second lead over Finlay Preece (Bolsover & District CC) & Lee Ashton (7 Hills CC) with the bunch a further 10 seconds back. A lap later, it was all change with Phil English (TLI) on his own with a 15 second lead on the bunch. Another lap, and at half distance it was Finlay Preece & Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) opening up a 10 second lead with a sizeable chasing group just getting a gap on the bunch. With 2 laps to go, that group had made it across to the leading duo, but the lead was down to only a handful of seconds. Over the closing 2 laps, the race finally settled into a more steady rhythm and despite all the efforts made earlier, ended in a bunch sprint which was clearly won by Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) ahead of teammate Chris Ashworth with Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) inches behind in 3rd, with Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) & Chris Harbon (Doncaster Wheelers) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 5 races, Blackburn retained his lead in the Group B Overall Standings but just by a single point over Copeland, with the trio of Michael Newton (Barnsley Road Club), Harbon & Johnson-Yates in joint 3rd, just a further 2 points behind. The top placings in Group B are getting tight with only 9 points covering the top 7.

Race 11 Dinnington 12/07/2018

After an enforced 2 week break, the 8th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, calm conditions over 6 laps of the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups B & C.

The Group B race was run off at a fast pace and on the 2nd lap, the duo of Chris Green (TLI) & Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) opened up a 30 second lead on the rest of the field. They held their advantage over the next 2 laps and and with 2 laps to go, it was looking likely they would stay away until the finish. However, the bunch put in a concerted effort over the penultimate lap, catching the leaders with just over a lap to go. At this point, Green attacked again, opening up a gap once more to which the bunch had no answer. At the finish, Green took the win with Edward Fisher (TLI) winning the bunch sprint 15 seconds behind, ahead of Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) & Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) with Copeland, after his earlier efforts, still strong enough to take 5th place.

After 6 races, Blackburn once again, only just retained his lead in the Group B Overall Standings just by a single point, this time over Johnson-Yates with Copeland a further 2 points behind in 3rd.

The Group C race was also fast which made it hard for any attacks to open a significant gap. A bunch sprint looked likely throughout the race and so it proved with Group C Overall Leader, Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) once again showing he is the strongest sprinter taking the win ahead of Scott Dawson, Nigel Gore (both Worrall Wheelers) with Adam Fowkes (TLI) & Jason Talbot (Harworth & District CC) rounding off the top five.

After 6 races, Smith continues to lead the Overall Group C Standings, with Fowkes remaining in 2nd place and Dawson moving into 3rd place just ahead of Gore.

Race 12 Torworth 19/07/2018

The 9th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, calm conditions over 7 laps of the Torworth circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & B.

The Group A race sprung into action on the 2nd lap when Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) & Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) opened up a 15 second lead on the bunch. A lap later and Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) counter attacked and was soon joined by team-mate & current Group A Overall leader, Dean Watson. With 3 laps to go their lead was a slender 12 seconds which they extended to 20 seconds with 2 laps to go. The chase behind wasn't helped by the retirement of current NMRRL Champion, Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) due to a broken crank. At the bell, the elastic had finally snapped, with the gap opening out to 50 seconds and the uncontested finish saw the leading duo ride over the line together with Watson just ahead of Bishop. Chambers-Smith understandably won the bunch sprint to make it a 1-2-3 for Andy Moore Autocentres Racing with Jack Stephenson & Dan Stephenson (both Out of the Saddle CC) rounding off the top 5.

After 5 races, Watson has opened up a commanding lead in the Group A Overall Standings, with Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) remaining in 2nd place & Chambers-Smith moving into 3rd.

The Group B race saw an early attack by Steve Wood (Geared Up Cycles/CN Cycles RT) who held a small advantage of 10 seconds at the end of the 1st lap. A lap later and Wood had been joined by Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) with the gap opening up to 30 seconds. The leading duo continued to work well extending their lead to 35 seconds by the end of the 3rd lap. However, the bunch finally chased the move down and with 3 laps to go, with the bunch riding at a sedate pace, Group B Overall leader, Rob Blackburn attacked prompting an immediate reaction behind. With 2 laps to go, Nelson attacked once more with team-mate Brett Daughtrey but they were soon brought back with Stuart Bolton (Sheffrec CC) counter attacking and opening up a promising 30 second lead at the bell. However, Bolton's move proved to be in vain with the bunch catching him in the closing stages. The bunch sprint was won by Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) a length ahead of Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) in 2nd place & Blackburn taking 3rd with Chris Harbon (Doncaster Wheelers) & Christopher Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 7 races, Johnson-Yates is the new leader in the Group B Overall Standings by 4 points over Blackburn with Harbon moving into joint 3rd place with the absent Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC).

Race 13 Dinnington 26/07/2018

The 10th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, humid conditions over 6 laps of the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & C.

The Group A race was eventful from the start with a group consisting of Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC), Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing), Steven Bunting (Rutland CC) & Peter Collins (Sharrow CC) opening up a 30 second lead over the bunch by the end of the 1st lap with the duo of Jason Elliott & Jonathan Harvey (both Doncaster Wheelers) trying to bridge the gap. A lap later the leading quartet were still ahead but the bunch were closing quickly just 12 seconds back. At half distance another breakaway consisting of defending NMRRL Champion Robert Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC), current Group A leader, Dean Watson (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing), Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) & Collins again, held a small advantage but the race was soon back altogether. With 2 laps to go, Ben Last (Clay Cross RT) attacked opening up a 10 second gap but was soon brought back. At the bell, it was the turn of Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) to try his luck but the race was back altogether and heading for a bunch sprint.

At the finish, it was Watson who proved to be the strongest taking a 3rd succesive Group A win ahead of teammate Aaron Chambers-Smith & Jack Stephenson in 3rd with Dan Stephenson & Stephen Ellis (both Out of the Saddle CC) rounding off the top 5.

After 6 races, Watson has increased his lead in the Group A Overall Standings, with Chambers-Smith moving into 2nd & Whiteley dropping down one place to 3rd.

The Group C race saw current Overall Leader Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) attack on the opening lap and open up a 30 second lead over the bunch. By the end of the 2nd lap, Smith was holding his advantage but with nobody trying to come across he eased up and by half distance the race was back altogether. It stayed that way for 2 more laps until the bell, when the trio of Smith, Curtis Green (Doncaster Wheelers) & Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) opened up a gap, but the bunch weren't letting them and the bunch sprint was once again, easily won by Smith ahead of Daughtrey & Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) with Richard Shimwell (Bolsover & District CC) & Chris Hunt (Harworth & District CC) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 7 races, Smith increased his lead in the Overall Group C standings with the absent Adam Fowkes (TLI) remaining in 2nd place & Scott Dawson (Worrall Wheelers) in 3rd.

Race 14 Serlby 02/08/2018

The 11th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in warm, humid conditions over 6 laps of the Serlby circuit. This week was the turn of Groups B & C.

The Group B race saw little in the way of attacks as the bunch weren't letting anyone get away and the race always looked likely to be heading for a bunch sprint. At the finish, current Group C leader, Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) riding in Group B for the first time, powered his way to yet another win ahead of Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) in 2nd with current Group B leader Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) in 3rd. Edward Fisher (TLI) & Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) rounded off the top 5 placings.

After 8 races and with just one more Group B race remaining, Johnson-Yates increased his lead in the Group B Overall Standings ahead of Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) with Copeland still in 3rd place.

The Group C race was run at a similar pace to the Group B race and breakaways also proved hard to come by with only Rob Walker (Worrall Wheelers) managing to open up a 10 second lead on the bunch at the bell. However, the bunch weren't giving him any leeway and soon brought him back. At the finish, Adam Fowkes (TLI) won the bunch sprint ahead of Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) in 2nd & David Ashton (TLI ) in 3rd with Nigel Gore & Dan Bannister (both Worrall Wheelers) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

After 8 races, Kieran Smith (Bolsover & District CC) still leads in the Overall Group C standings with Fowkes remaining in 2nd place & Daughtrey moving into 3rd.

Race 15 Dinnington 09/08/2018

The 12th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in cooler, pleasant conditions over 6 laps of the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & B.

The Group A race sprung into action on the 1st of the 6 laps when a group consisting of Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC), Harry Buxton (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing), Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) & Phil Axe (Sharrow CC) opened up a 10 second gap on the bunch. A lap later, it was Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) on his own with a 15 second lead and he was soon joined by 6 more riders, teammates Aaron Chambers-Smith, Stephen Paterson & Group A Overall leader, Dean Watson plus Dan Stephenson & Jack Stephenson (both Out of the Saddle CC) & Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) with the bunch some 20 seconds back at the half way point. With 2 laps to go, Chambers-Smith had attacked, opening up a 30 second lead on the rest of the breakaway with the bunch now at over one minute behind. At the bell, Chambers-Smith still held a 10 second lead over teammate Watson with Dan Stephenson & Whiteley heading the chase with passengers Bishop & Paterson, a further 40 seconds behind and Jack Stephenson having dropped off. At the finish, it was Chambers-Smith who crossed over the line just ahead of Watson to take a much deserved win with Paterson taking 3rd place ahead of Dan Stephenson & Whiteley to make it a 1-2-3 for Andy Moore Autocentres Racing, these 3 finishing just over a minute behind the leading duo. Bishop finished just behind for 6th place with Jack Stephenson holding off the bunch for 7th. Buxton won the bunch sprint for 8th place but over 2 and a half minutes down on Chambers-Smith.

After 7 races and with 2 races to go, Watson still holds a commanding lead over Chambers-Smith in the Group A Overall Standings with the Group A title being certain to go to one of them. Whiteley held onto his 3rd place, 5 points ahead of Dan Stephenson.

The Group B race stayed together until the 2nd lap when Carter Howe (Mansfield Road Club) & Stuart Bolton (Sheffrec CC) opened up a 15 second lead on the bunch. At half distance, the leading duo were still working well together increasing their advantage to 25 seconds. With 2 laps to go, there was finally a reaction in the bunch with Alistair Kay (Velo Vitesse) attempting to cross the gap some 15 seconds behind and Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) & Adam Fowkes (TLI) just ahead of the bunch a further 12 seconds back. At the bell, Kay, Nelson & Fowkes had managed to make it across to Howe & Bolton with the bunch now 50 seconds behind. At the finish, Kay proved to be the strongest, taking the win ahead of Bolton with Howe and Nelson in 3rd & 4th places respectively and Fowkes in 5th just a couple of seconds back. Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) & David Morrison (7 Hills CC) attacked in the closing miles to take 6th & 7th, just over one minute behind with Finlay Preece (Bolsover & Distict CC) attacking into the finish to take 8th just holding off the bunch sprint which was won by Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC).

Darren Johnson-Yates (TLI) kept a close eye on his nearest rivals and 12th place was enough to ensure he remained in the lead and to take the Group B Overall title, a year after winning the Group C title. Rob Blackburn (8Point8 Group) remained in 2nd place with the absent Rob Copeland (Sheffrec CC) just holding onto 3rd place by a solitary point.

Race 16 Dinnington 16/08/2018

he 13th race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in cooler conditions over 6 laps of the Dinnington circuit. This week was the turn of Groups A & C but both groups started with the smallest fields of the year so far.

The Group A race pretty much stayed together over the 1st lap and it wasn't until the end of the 2nd lap that Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) opened up a 15 second lead on the bunch with Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC) in between trying to get across. At half distance, Whiteley had caught Bishop and attacked again, gaining a 20 second lead on Bishop with the bunch a further 10 seconds back. With 2 laps to go, Whiteley maintained his lead but Overall Group A leader Dean Watson (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) was closing in, 10 seconds back with Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) & Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) at 25 seconds, Bishop now at 30 seconds and the bunch at 40 seconds. Watson caught Whiteley soon afterwards, and by the bell, the leading duo held a 35 second lead over Chambers-Smith with Mitchell a further 20 seconds back and the bunch now at well over a minute in arrears.

At the finish, Watson proved to be the strongest taking yet another win, a length ahead of Whiteley. Chambers-Smith took 3rd place nearly a minute down with Mitchell holding on to take 4th place nearly half a minute further back, and likewise, Bishop taking 5th just ahead of the bunch sprint which was won by Alistair Kay (Velo Vitesse), one minute & 45 seconds down on Watson.

After 8 races and with just 1 race to go, Watson has an unassailable lead in the Group A Overall Standings with Chambers-Smith looking likely to take 2nd place and Whiteley 3rd, assuming they both ride the final event.

The Group C race saw little in the way of action until 2 laps to go when Curtis Green (Doncaster Wheelers) opened up a 10 second lead on the bunch but was soon brought back and the race headed for the inevitable bunch sprint which was won by Jason Talbot (Harworth & District CC) ahead of Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) & Richard Shimwell (Bolsover & District CC) with the Worrall Wheelers pair of Nigel Gore & Scott Dawson in 4th & 5th places respectively. Only 12 riders finished the Group C race.

After 9 races and with just 1 race to go, Kieran Smith (Bolsolver & District CC) looks certain to take the Group C title with only Daughtrey now able to catch him with Adam Fowkes (TLI) dropping down to 3rd place.

Race 17 Torworth 23/08/2018

The 14th and final race of the 2018 NMRRL was held in cool, wet & blustery conditions over 5 laps of the Torworth circuit. This week was again the turn of Groups A & C.

The Group A race sprung into action on the 1st lap when the trio of Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC), Steven Bunting (Rutland CC) & Harry Buxton (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) opened up a 10 second lead on the bunch and a lap later increased their advantage to 35 seconds. Andy Bishop (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) then attacked the bunch and had closed the gap to 25 seconds with 2 laps to go, with the bunch now just over a minute behind. By the bell, with the leading trio still working well together, Bishop had dropped back to 35 seconds with the bunch now nearly a minute and a half in arrears.

At the finish, Stephenson easily won the sprint a couple of lengths ahead of Bunting & Buxton with Bishop still on his own taking 4th place, 45 seconds behind. The bunch sprint for 5th place was won by Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) ahead of Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) with Ben Last (Clay Cross RT), Andrew Whiteley (Sheffrec CC), Alexander Fletcher (7 Hills CC) & Ian Davenport (Out of the Saddle CC) rounding out the top 10.

Dean Watson (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) had already secured top spot in the Group A Overall Standings, team-mate Chambers-Smith secured 2nd place with Whiteley remaining in 3rd.

The Group C race saw Overall Leader Kieran Smith (Bolsolver & District CC) open up a 15 second gap on the bunch at the end of the 1st lap, but a lap later it was all back together and the tough conditions made it difficult for any breakaway attempts, so it stayed that way all the way to the finish. Smith, once again, proved to be the strongest taking the win and securing the Overall Group C title with it, ahead of Adam Fowkes (TLI) in 2nd & Ash Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC) in 3rd with Richard Shimwell (Bolsover & District CC) & Jason Talbot (Harworth & District CC) rounding off the top 5 places.

After 10 races, Smith (Bolsolver & District CC) was a convincing winner of Group C with strong performances from Daughtrey in 2nd & Fowkes in 3rd.
