DINNINGTON SERIES RESULTS

RACE 1 - 23/04/2015

The first race of the 2015 NMRRL at Dinnington was held in dry, but overcast conditions. This week was the turn of group B and group C.

Group B started first and after two laps, a group of 5 riders drew clear but were soon brought back by an eager peloton behind. No real gaps appeared and the inevitable bunch gallop unfolded on final finishing straight. In the sprint, under 16 rider, Ben Turner of Bradford Olympic RC narrowly beat Dan Stephenson, Out Of The Saddle and Simon Jackson, Sheffrec CC to take the first win of the NMRRL season.

In the Group C race, 2 riders broke clear on lap 2 and held a 18 second advantage over the chasing peloton which was being driven by Sheffrec CC rider, Paul Young. The following lap came and the duo had become a solo break with Joel Candy, Bolsover & District CC holding an advantage of 35 seconds. His breakaway companion, Mark Pinnington, Featherstone RC was now back in the bunch. Candy forged out the fastest lap of the evening and his advantage soon became 1 minute and 12 seconds. Candy rode the rest of the race solo to take an impressive win by over a minute. The chasing bunch sprinted for the line with Allan Wailoo, La Squadra taking 2nd place with Sheffield Sports CC rider, Marc Hughes 3rd.

Next week it's the turn of Group A & C to ride.

RACE 4 - 14/05/2015

It was the turn of Group B & C for week 4 of the Dinnington Series held in cold, blustery conditions.

In the Group B race, the difficult conditions made it discouraging for any riders to attempt a breakaway. Jamie Tune (Bikeboxalan) held a small lead at the end of the first lap and Peter Collins (Sharrow CC) similarly opened up a small gap a lap later. After those brief escapes, the bunch pretty much stayed together for the rest of the race.
At the finish, Joel Candy (Bolsover & District Wheelers) won the bunch sprint ahead of Ben Turner (Bradford Olympic RC) with Dan Stephenson (Out Of The Saddle CC) & Mark Turner (Dinnington RC) in 3rd & 4th places respectively. The result meant that Ben Turner has increased his lead to 12 points in the Overall Group B Standings ahead of Stephenson in 2nd place.

The Group C race was no different with no breakaways of any significance taking place. The bunch sprint was won by Allan Wailoo (La Squadra) ahead of Dean Hobson (Featherstone RC) with Marc Hughes (TLI) in 3rd. The win enabled Wailoo to increase his lead to 9 points over Hughes in the Overall Group C Standings.

RACE 5 - 21/05/2015

It was the turn of Group A & C for week 5 of the Dinnington Series held in dry but cool conditions.

In the Group A race, Darryl Wall (Out Of The Saddle CC) attacked on the second lap opening up a 25 seconds lead. A lap later, Wall was still away but now held a 20 seconds lead over a chasing group of 7 riders consisting of Joe Elwood, Andy Nichols (both Langsett Cycles RT), James Hill, Kieran Simcox (both Bikeboxalan), Ashley Brown ( ), Robert Mitchell (Out Of The Saddle CC) & Callum Stewart (Sheffrec CC) with the bunch a further behind.

On the next few laps, the breakaway group worked really well together, with the bunch falling further behind, so that at 2 laps to go, the gap was getting close to 2 minutes. Coming to the end of the penultimate lap, Elwood & Mitchell attacked, fragmenting the leading group and opening up a significant gap, with the rest of the breakaways after an initial effort to get them back, eventually giving up the chase.

At the finish, Elwood took the win over Mitchell, with Simcox taking the sprint for 3rd place ahead of Nichols, Hill, Brown, Wall & Stewart in 8th place. In fact, the rest of the breakaways took it so easy on the final lap that they finished 1 minute 40 seconds down on Elwood and weren't all that far in front of the bunch. Gary Hides (Out Of The Saddle CC) attacked in the closing stages to take 9th place a few seconds ahead of Xavier Scott (Bolsover & District CC).

Elwood is the new leader in the Group A Overall Standings, just 2 points ahead of team-mate Nichols with Simcox & Mitchell tied for 3rd place a further 4 points behind

In contrast, the Group C race was pretty uneventful with only Tom North ( ) opening up a 10 to 15 second advantage at the end of the 2nd lap which he held for a further 2 laps before being brought back by the rest of the field with 2 laps to go. The bunch sprint was won by Allan Wailoo (La Squadra) ahead of Marc Hughes (TLI) with Dean Hobson (Featherstone RC) in 3rd. Wailoo's second successive win enabled him to increase his lead to 12 points over Hughes in the Overall Group C Standings at the end of the Dinnington Series.

RACE 6 - 28/05/2015

For the final races in the Dinnington Series it was the turn of Groups A & B held in wet and cold conditions.

In the Group A race, Kieran Simcox (Bikeboxalan) attacked on the opening lap and held a slender advantage over the rest of the field for a further 2 and a half laps before being brought back with 2 laps to go. Then it was the turn of Simcox's team-mate Charlie Renshaw who broke away with Andy Nichols (Langsett Cycles RT) with the duo having a 10 second lead at the bell. Over the final lap, the duo continued to work well together, increasing their advantage and in the closing stages, Nichols attacked to take a solo win, coming in 17 seconds ahead of Renshaw. Simcox won the bunch sprint for 3rd place ahead of past double NMRRL Champion Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) in 4th & Joe Elwood (Langsett Cycles RT) in 5th.

At the end of the Dinnington Series, Nichols' win enabled him to regain the Overall Lead in the Group A Standings, 7 points ahead of Elwood with Simcox a further 2 points back.

At the end of the 1st lap in the Group B race, Steven Howe (Rutland CC) opened up a small gap, but was soon brought back. A lap later, Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) & Dominic Watts (Veloviewer.com) held a 15 second lead which dropped to 12 seconds at the end of the 3rd lap, but then increased up to 20 seconds with 2 laps to go. With the bunch constantly working hard to bring them back throughout the race, it looked as though the breakaway was doomed, as at the bell, the duo now held just a slender advantage of less than 10 seconds. However, Allen & Watts continued their effort, with Allen surviving until the finish to take a fully deserved win with Jack & Dan Stephenson (both Out Of The Saddle CC) taking 2nd & 3rd places in the bunch sprint just 4 seconds behind Allen. Watts had to be satisfied with the consolation of 10th place for all his efforts.

The absent Ben Turner (Bradford Olympic RC) still holds the Overall Lead in the Group B Standings, just 2 points ahead of Dan Stephenson.
