STAINTON SERIES RESULTS

RACE 13 - 16/07/2015

The first round of the Stainton Series was contested by Groups B & C in dry, sunny conditions.

The Group B race stayed pretty much together for the duration of the 8 lap race with all breakaway attempts managing just to get a handful of seconds advantage.

The bunch sprint was won by Peter Collins (Sharrow CC) ahead of Pete Crawforth (Veloviewer.com) with Rob Blackburn (TLI) & Lee Farmer (Out Of The Saddle CC) in 3rd & 4th places respectively.

Ben Turner (Bradford Olympic RC) still leads the Overall Group B Standings ahead of Dan Stephenson (Out Of The Saddle CC) despite both of them moving into Group A after the Dinnington Series. Alex Leyland (Out Of The Saddle CC) remains in 3rd, with Collins, Farmer, Blackburn & Crawforth all narrowly behind.

It was a similar story for the Group C race until 2 laps to go, when Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) & Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) opened up a 10 second advantage on the rest of the field. At the bell, the duo still held a good lead which they maintained to the finish, where Barrowcliffe outsprinted Rowland to take the win. Phil Lindley (Mansfield Road Club) took 3rd place just ahead of Stuart Burrows (Team Swift), 19 seconds down on the leading duo.

All of the positions remained the same in the Group C Overall Standings as anyone in the top 10 after the Barlow Series were moved into Group B. Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) remains in top spot.

RACE 14 - 23/07/2015

The second round of the Stainton Series was contested by Groups A & C in dry conditions.

Due to the number of Group A riders signing on it was decided to set the Group A riders off 4 minutes after Group C. At the end of the first of the 8 lap race, Phil Lindley (Mansfield Road Club) had opened up a 25 second lead which he maintained for another lap before being brought back by the end of the third lap. Behind, Ashley Brown (Polypipe RT) & Andy Shaw (Out of the Saddle CC) had attacked in Group A opening up a 20 second advantage. However, at half distance the whole of Group A and Group C had come together. The expected split didn't happen, Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle CC) did open up a 10 second lead with 2 laps to go but the whole field was back together again at the bell.

The resulting bunch sprint was won by Charlie Renshaw (Bikeboxalan) ahead of Brown with Joe Elwood (Langsett Cycles RT) in 3rd place. Andrew Cutts (Birdwell Wheelers) was the first Group C rider with Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) in 2nd place & Craig Barrowcliffe (TLI) in 3rd.

Elwood's 3rd place meant that he increased his lead in the Group A Overall Standings due to the absence of teammate Andy Nichols who remains in 2nd with Mitchell in 3rd. Renshaw's win enabled him to move into 4th place.

All of the positions remained the same in the Group C Overall Standings with Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) now in Group B, remaining in top spot and is now unable to be caught. Rowland's 2nd place enabled him to move into the top 10.

RACE 15 - 30/07/2015

The third round of the Stainton Series was contested by Groups A & B in what turned out to be nice conditions after the rain earlier in the day.

The Group A race was set alight by Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) who attacked on the 2nd lap and stayed away for another 4 laps before being brought back with just 2 laps to go. The bunch then stayed together for the rest of the race. At the finish, Ashley Brown (Polypipe RT) improved on his 2nd place last week to take the win, with Mitchell still strong enough to take 2nd place ahead of Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) in 3rd & Joe Elwood (Langsett Cycles RT) in 4th.

Elwood increased his lead in the Group A Overall Standings ahead of teammate Andy Nichols who was unplaced, with Mitchell closing in 3rd. Brown's win enabled him to move into 4th place.

The Group B race was largely uneventful with the only breakaway of any note taking place at the end of the first lap where a small group of riders gained about 8 seconds advantage. A lap later and the race was back together and it stayed that way until the finish where Pete Collins (Sharrow CC) was the clear winner of the bunch sprint to take his second successive Group B win. Nick Boden (Common Lane Occasionals) took 2nd place ahead of James Mappin (Geared Up Cycles) & Lee Farmer (Out of the Saddle CC) in 3rd & 4th places respectively.

Collins' two wins has enabled him to take the lead in the Group B Overall Standings, with Farmer in 2nd place & Ben Turner (Bradford Olympic RC), the leader after the Dinnington Series, still in 3rd despite moving into Group A.

RACE 16 - 06/08/2015

The fourth round of the Stainton Series was contested by Groups B & C in dry, sunny conditions.

Newcomer Hugo Cante (TLI) proved to be the star of the Group B race. He opened up a 10 second lead over the rest of the field at the end of the first lap before being brought back and 2 laps later was briefly away with Alain Gordon-Seymour (Rutland CC) & Darryl Plant (Out Of The Saddle CC). For the remaining laps the field stayed together until the run into the finish where it was Carte again attacking to take a solo win. Pete Collins (Sharrow CC) was the clear winner of the bunch sprint to take 2nd place ahead of Rob Blackburn (TLI) & James Mappin (Geared Up Cycles) in 3rd & 4th places respectively.

Collins increased his lead in the Group B Overall Standings, with Blackburn moving into 2nd place & Lee Farmer (Out Of The Saddle CC) dropping one place to 3rd.

The Group C was largely uneventful in comparison with the only breakaway of note taking place at the end of the first lap when Dave Clarke (Harworth & District CC) opened up a 20 second lead. However, the field was back altogether again a lap later and it stayed that way until the finish where Andrew Cutts (Birdwell Wheelers) won the bunch sprint for his 2nd successive Group C win ahead of Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) in 2nd with Clarke & Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC) in 3rd & 4th places.

Garry Hill (Dinnington RC) has an unassailable lead in the Group C Overall Standings (and managed a creditable 10th place in the Group B race) ahead of Allan Wailoo (La Squadra) & Marc Hughes (TLI) who both also moved up to Group B. Barrowcliffe, Cutts & Rowland are closing in after their consistent high placings at Stainton.
